APPROVAL OF THE “INTERNATIONAL NAVAL SURVEYS BUREAU -INSB BY UNITED STATES COAST GUARD (USCG) UNDER 46 U.S.C. 3316 (c)(2)
In accordance with the provisions of U.S. Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2004, under P.L. 108-293, section 413, INSB attained formal approval by the USCG on 24 February 2006, as a classification society, for purposes of 46 U.S.C. 3316 (c)(1).
Section 413 of the law directs the Coast Guard to approve each classification society (IACS members excluded) before the entity or its employees or agents examining, surveying or certifying a vessel in the United States. This law amends the U.S. maritime legislation mainly in maritime safety and security matters
In accordance to the criteria and requirements of the amended U.S. maritime legislation, the USCG has reviewed the submitted information of INSB and has determined that the INSB class society satisfies the requirements of 46 U.S.C. 3316 (c)(2).
Likewise, INSB may deliver and perform its services, for vessels monitored or certified by the society and while in the U.S. Ports.
INSB society has demonstrated that its classed vessels have an acceptable safety record and that INSB has established and maintains a comprehensive set of safety standards, thus enabling INSB classed vessels to freely operate in the United States waters, on the same basis with IACS classed fleet.
The present attained approval is viewed by the INSB as a significant achievement of the society’s continuous efforts towards the effective and efficient practicing of the international safety regulations and policies in a quality oriented manner.
